Engagements in Pivotal Labs
During my consulting experience I worked collaboratively with clients, developers, and designers on engagements. We worked together in an Agile development-focused workflow with an emphasis on user research and rapidly iterative user-centred-design (UCD) and development. UCD is a product design philosophy that emphasizes designing the product around how the user can, wants or needs to use it, rather than seeking to change user's behaviours. Pivotal Labs aimed to design solutions that solve user and business problems. This included prioritizing contact with end users, and not proxies, in order to determine value and take an evidence-based approach to the product design.

Volkswagen Digital Lab Berlin
In 2015, the Volkswagen Digital: Lab Berlin was incepted. I was part of the original team from Pivotal Labs that opened the doors and was a part of hiring the team in partnership with Volkswagen as a Product Design consultant.
The goal of the Lab was to create an environment with balanced teams, product, design and engineering. This way of working enables teams to work with a shared understanding on the team that helps them balance technical, business, and user needs.
Centred in Design thinking and MVP (Minimal Viable Product) approach to shape and validate the products developed in the Lab. The team delivered amazing experiences to Volkswagen customers and users.

How we worked: Loblaw’s embarked on an agile approach to develop the best user experience for their PC Plus members. The PC Plus application design was the first truly agile implementation for Loblaw’s, during which Pivotal Labs consulted with their team on extreme programming, user-centred-design, lean agile methods and experiments.
Extreme programming
Building working software at a consistent speed and quality in the face of changing requirements.
Paired programming
Test-driven development
Short iterations
Continuous integration / Continuous deployment
User-centred-design
Ensuring the software solves a real problem for real users in a desirable and usable product.
User interviews
Ethnographic studies
Persona definition
Prototype creation
Hypothesis-driven prototypes
Lean agile
Reducing the risk of building the wrong thing while comfortably
Changing direction based on learning
Minimum viable product (MVP)
Lean experiments
